10 Jul Debating Contest Berlin 2023
We participated in the English Debating Contest Berlin on 19 June 2023. It was our first time debating and we prepared for it months in advance. We formed two teams: Proposition and Opposition so we could practise with mock debates.
Our topic was “Physical education lessons should be voluntary”. Our school was in the Opposition Team and Eden Laura Jane Dean (9e), Elen Diana Stoica (10c), and Hafsa Rubayat Molla (10b) debated against the Benjamin-Franklin-Schule.
We were all nervous since it was our first time. After we finished, we had to wait outside while the judges decided which team won. Hafsa (10b) was named the best speaker of the debate. At the end the judges told us that our school (Ernst-Schering-Schule) won the debate. We were all happy since it was the first time for everyone including our teachers Mr Stellenberg and Ms Reissenberger to participate in a debate.
